Some of the goodies reserved only for the old Sport Hybrid will now be available on all MDXs. Notably, the Active Damper System — a continuously adjustable valve that controls the flow of hydraulic fluid within the damper — is available on non-hybrid MDXs for the first time. The system has several settings, from plush to firm. We found this system worked very well on the Sport Hybrid during our first drive, so it’s a useful upgrade that buyers will be able to readily appreciate.1
Most MDX models are equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The engine is tuned to pull harder at low speeds, which suits the short drives most MDX owners will make. The crossover is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is plenty to pull most weekend toys.2
The MDX has been highly praised as one of the most comfortable and high-tech vehicles in its class. The front features a large storage bin, and several well-placed cubbies sit throughout the cabin. Rear passengers have plenty of room, and second-row captain’s chairs are available in place of the standard bench seat.3
The front-wheel drive MDX is powered by Acura’s legendary smooth 290-HP 3.5-liter V-6 through a 9-speed transmission with paddle shifters. It is the lightest MDX and the most efficient conventional gas-powered drivetrain yet.
The Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) models are designed to provide adept dry-road handling as well as all-weather performance using active torque vectoring to direct power to either rear wheel as needed.
It starts with the instant torque of electric power and 321 total system horsepower. The MDX Sport Hybrid uses NSX-derived technology to achieve the performance trifecta of increased power, improved fuel efficiency and significantly enhanced handling.
Choose your desired driving mode—Comfort, Normal, Sport and, additionally, in the Sport Hybrid, Sport+—and the MDX’s Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) personalizes its technology for you.
As the MDX enters the corner, Agile Handling Assist technology tightens the vehicle’s line through the turn by braking individual wheels as needed to improve cornering stability and speed.
In wet conditions, Vehicle Stability Assist™ can reduce the dangers of over and under steering and loss of traction by applying brakes at each wheel as needed and when necessary, reducing engine power.
New for the 2019 model year, MDX’s A-Spec® Package features massive 20-inch five-spoke Shark Gray alloy wheels, an aggressive front bumper complete with LED fog lights, exclusive gloss-black window trim, a rear gloss-black diffuser, dual exhaust outlets—all of it proudly finished with prominent A-Spec badging.
A centerpiece of the MDX is the signature grille that emphasizes the stability and confidence the vehicle. The three-dimensional quality of the grille also gives the MDX an aggressive attitude and makes a luxury statement.
All MDX models are equipped with Jewel Eye® LED headlights. In addition to giving the MDX an elegant appearance, the five LEDs on each side provide a whiter, brighter beam, use less energy and last significantly longer than HID or halogen headlights.
Create a more open and air feeling to the cabin with the touch of a button. The Power Moonroof option has the option to recess fully or open to a tilt, plus it automatically reverses if an obstruction is detected. For additional comfort the glass is tinted to help with glare and heat.
Loading and unloading cargo has never been this easy thanks to the Remote-Linked Power-Operated Tailgate, which will open or close simply by pressing a button on the key fob. Your hands being full of camping equipment is no longer a challenge.
When it comes to personalizing, choose Acura Genuine Accessories, which are crafted with the same precision and attention to detail as the rest of your Acura. The MDX has 47 accessories to choose from, including roof rails and crossbars, running boards, and door-sill trim.
The all-new A-Spec® interior design inspires high-performance driving with red leather, contrast stitching, Alcantara® inserts and seat bolsters, an exclusive steering wheel, metal sport pedals, red ambient lighting, and an instrument panel that glows red.
With the flexibility of 60/40 split second-row and 50/50 split third-row seatbacks, MDX adapts to a variety of passenger and cargo combinations. Behind the third-row lies over 15 cubic feet or fold the second-row down for over 90 cubic feet of pure storage bliss.
Compact, yet spacious, the center console armrest slides forward and backward for added comfort. Inside is a small bin perfect for your phone and personal items as well as a lower door with non-skid ribs on its surface to help your keep your items secure.
All systems go. The MDX instrument panel allows you to control and access everything you need, whether you’re the passenger or driver. Shortcuts for audio and climate control are at your fingertips with the On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™) touchscreen display.
Get to where you want to go with the available Acura Navigation System. This highly intelligent driving companion comes with a high-mounted 8-inch LED screen and driver-centric, and friendly, technologies. Find your way easier, using the Voice Recognition System and avoid delays on streets and freeways using Real-Time Traffic with advanced Traffic Rerouting.
Now charging, easier than ever. Conveniently charge and link your devices to the MDX and with Siri® Eyes Free, use features of your compatible iPhone® without taking your hands off the wheel. Integrated Pandora® app deliver cloud-based podcasts, internet radio and more.
Acura’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure was designed to absorb and disperse frontal impact energy more evenly around the vehicle, so less of it transfers to what really matters: the car’s occupants.
Distractions happen, so the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ can help alert you to obstacles detected ahead. It’s programmed to provide visual alerts when it determines a crash is possible—and if you don’t react, it can brake for you.
Adaptive Cruise Control lets you set a desired speed and maintain a set interval between you and the car detected ahead. That way you can enjoy cruise control even in light traffic conditions.
Lane Keeping Assist System uses a forward-facing camera above the rearview mirror to keep the MDX centered in a detected lane. If you begin to drift to the side, it will gently guide the car back to the middle of the lane.
To help your MDX stay on the road, the Road Departure Mitigation System uses a monocular camera to recognize roadways and solid lane lines. If the system detects that the MDX has drifted over road markings it will provide alerts, steering assist and if necessary, braking assist.
Four exterior cameras give you a 360° view of the space immediately around the MDX through the navigation display. Change camera views via the camera button among the nav display controls or an even more conveniently located button on the end of the turn signal lever.
